A spokesperson for the University of Pennsylvania said that during the course of the study, all the subjects were monitored on lines of caloric intake, food consumed and overall diet in combination with an exercise program. Although previous studies on effects on green coffee extract consumption have shown some results, this was the first time an extensive study was done to gauge if weight loss varied with varying consumption amounts of the bean extract. The study itself was a first in the sense that it used variations in dosage and the first to measure the response effect to such doses.
The overall results were astounding. All the participants lost 17 pounds on average during the entire duration; this included a 16% reduction in body fat and a 10.5 % reduction in overall body weight.
